Please consider sharing this project! We're so close to getting 2 more wobble stools for our classroom.  Wobble stools are a great, safe way for students to "wiggle" while they work! Currently, all students get one day per week where they can use a wobble stool and they look forward to it! I would love to have more wobble stools available for students who need them on a more regular basis or for small group time!

Valentine's Day

Can you believe we're halfway through February? This week was busy with the 100th day of school, learning about dental health and President's Day, and our Valentine's Day festivities.  If you didn't realize that it was the 100th day of school; don't worry! In first grade, we celebrate the 120th day of school, as it aligns with our math standards!

Today we had a fun, busy day filled with Valentine's Day themed activities! This morning the students had some of their favorite morning work:  word searches and coloring pages.  They also passed out their Valentine's.  We had morning meeting, did a guided drawing, and some word work.  The students came up with many words using the letters in the words:  Valentine's Day! Did you know you can spell Santa, Linnea, and Dean using these letters? We had our special snack and listened to the story "Somebody Loves You, Mr. Hatch."  What a WONDERFUL, heartwarming story!

After lunch, we read "Roses are Pink, Your Feet Really Stink" and then played Valentine's Day Bingo! We did some Valentine's Day themed math activities, such as graphing candy hearts and measuring pictures using candy hearts as our unit.  We had a lot of fun! We also thought the Smarties candy hearts were quite tasty!

After math, we made a Valentine for someone special.  Students could choose to make it for someone in another classroom or someone at home.  They drew a picture and then wrote a reason they loved that person.

After writing, we FINALLY got to open our Valentine's cards! The students were so excited to read their Valentine's and were shouting "Thank you" across the room to one another.  It was VERY sweet!

We ended our day by watching "Be My Valentine, Charlie Brown."

I hope that everyone has a safe, relaxing February vacation! When we return to school next week, we will continue reading non-fiction, writing persuasive/opinion pieces, and working on addition strategies.  We will also learn more about dental health! Did you know that February is Dental Health month? We will also celebrate Dr. Seuss' birthday!

As always, please feel to reach out to me with any questions or concerns!
